Pharmacist

Palm Island Pharmacy is seeking a part-time or regular casual pharmacist.

The work schedule is flexible and we would consider
- 1 or 2 days per week; or
- 3 or 4 days per fortnight; or
- a block of 5 to 7 days a month; or
- let us know what you are looking for

The pharmacy will cover the cost of flights/ferry as well as accommodation while working on Palm Island.

Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful pharmacist.

Palm Island Pharmacy is open every day from 8am to 7pm (including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays).  However, we are focusing on preferably having the pharmacist working during the Monday to Friday period (unless you are wanting the 7 day block option).

This is a single pharmacist pharmacy where you will be undertaking all task from serving customers, dispensing and blister packing.  There is a full time pharmacy assistant who works Monday to Friday.  The pharmacy is quite small but is popular with the local community.

You need to have an interest in Indigenous health issues as more than 95% of the community is Indigenous.

Cultural sensitivity is a key requirement of this position.  Patient counseling needs to be undertaken in a culturally appropriate manner.

In this role you will be contributing to health service provision in an area with unique needs. The Australian Government has signaled a need to "close the gap", a gap that exists in health standards between Indigenous people and other populations.  Since Palm Island is almost exclusively populated by Indigenous people, every health service employee plays an important role in making a real difference.  Staff members contribute not only through using their health service expertise, but also their cultural capability.
